Please know that we stand with you, and together, we will uphold the values of compassion, integrity, and justice for all.
With changes in leadership at the national level and the transition to a new presidential administration, we understand that some students and families may feel uncertain, anxious, or even afraid. Please know that Geyserville Unified School District stands with you and remains unwavering in our heartfelt commitment to ensuring that every child—regardless of their immigration status—feels safe, supported, and welcomed in our schools.

We are here for you and your family. Our priority is to provide a nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially, knowing they are valued and protected. We are committed to the success of all students, ensuring that every school is a safe, welcoming space for students and their families, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. The district will not solicit or collect information about the citizenship or immigration status of students or their families, nor will it assist with immigration enforcement at school sites, except as required by state or federal law.

Here is the most important information we can share right now:
  • All students have a right to a public school learning environment free from discrimination, harassment, bullying, violence and intimidation regardless of legal status.
  • We are closely watching changes to immigration rules and are discussing the changes with our attorneys and other educational leaders as things are changing quickly.
  • A new federal order does allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to come to schools to enforce immigration laws and staff may face prosecution for not complying with the agents.
  • California's Department of Justice is working hard to enforce the state’s rules against discrimination and harassment based on race or immigration status. Schools are encouraged to report any ICE actions to the Department of Justice to help with this effort to ensure protection for all students’ safety.
Here are some actions we commit to take:
  • Continue watching laws, guidelines, and discussion at the federal, state, and local level and update our policies as clearly and transparently as possible.
  • Train staff regarding potential interaction with an ICE agent, (confirm their identity, verify the authenticity of any warrants, and request district, legal, or state support).
  • Share information and resources to help families. We will be sending home mailers, posting to parentsquare, and having information at school events. Please check our school website for updates and information, www.gusd.com
Here are some ways families who could be affected by immigration enforcement can prepare:
  • Make a family emergency plan and talk to your kids about what could happen.
  • Identify who can take care of your children if a parent is detained.
  • Update your child’s school emergency contact information.

Geyserville Unified School District is committed to standing with you and providing the resources, guidance, and protections needed to foster a sense of security and belonging for all.
