Hello February! Our days have been very full here at GES. We are soon approaching the end of our second trimester. Teachers are beginning to assess students and are commenting on how much they’ve grown since the start of the school year.
Congratulations to all of our students who earned Reading Counts awards this week. They worked hard to achieve their goals, and it is important for us to honor that. Have you asked your child what book they’ve been reading this week and what it is about? Conversations at the dinner table or in the car are an easy way to be involved in your child’s education.
We’ve had a wealth of enrichment opportunities recently…
This past week, our 3rd-5th grade students enjoyed an assembly with Marcus Shelby focused on Black History and Jazz. Thank you to the Healdsburg Jazz Program for offering this opportunity for our students. They will also be attending a jazz concert at the Raven theater in March, and 5th graders will participate in Operation Jazz, an in-class program with musicians, followed by another concert.
4th and 5th graders started Ukulele lessons with Mr. Andrew this past week. This is a program that is new to GES this year.
Ballet Folklorico also began this last week. We have over 25 students who are participating in this after school program!
Our garden is quickly growing! Our students have planted fava beans, onions, and more… plus are learning how to prune grape vines! Tracy Garces is our new garden coordinator for this school year.
Please help us by completing an LCAP survey… your input matters to us when we make decisions on how to allocate our resources. We sent home paper surveys last week or you can click on the district tab to do the survey online if that’s easier. Thank you for your support!
The Santa Rosa Symphony visited our school Thursday, January 18th. The ensemble focused on percussion instruments. Our students got some hands on time too. Great day, Thank You SR Symphony!
