February 2019 Dear Parents, 2019 is off to a great start. Our classes have fallen back into their routines and we are seeing so much growth in our students! Feb 15th marks the end of our second trimester. Report cards will be mailed home the week of Feb 25th. Parent- Teacher Conferences Feb 25-Mar 1 We will have early dismissal daily for the week. Boys and Girls Club will be open, but your child must be enrolled to attend. The “second bus” on early dismissal days will pick up at 2:40. Your child will receive a letter if his/her teacher has requested a conference with you. If you don’t receive a letter, but would like to have a conference, please contact our office at (707) 857-3410. Mrs. Flores is working on scheduling conferences, please help by returning the letter that is sent home today to confirm your conference time. Kindergarten registration for Fall 2019-20 If you have an incoming kindergartener who is a Geyserville resident, enrollment is now open. Please stop in the office to pick up paperwork or visit our website- www.gusd.com. Enrollment is closed for out of district students for the 2019-20 school year. Ballet Folklorico Ballet Folklorico will be starting for grades 3-5. Mrs. Flores sent home permission slips a couple of weeks ago. The first class begins today, on Feb 6 and will continue through the end of the school year. It is important that students attend all practices, to learn the choreographed dances. Students will perform for the Geyserville May Day Festival and Cinco de Mayo celebration at GNTA. Black History Month The celebration of Black History Month honors the contributions of African Americans to U.S. history. Each year, the local Healdsburg Jazz organization provides an educational assembly for our students in grades 3-5, which our students enjoyed today. ELPAC testing All English Language Learner students in the state of California will be taking the ELPAC exam to determine their level of English Proficiency. At GES, we will begin administering the ELPAC during the week of Feb 19th and continue testing until all students have completed it. Schools of Hope Volunteers have begun to work with students in 2nd and 3rd grade on reading skills. We are grateful for this opportunity! Musical Theater This ongoing program will end with a performance on the evening of Wed Feb 22nd. Tickets for seating will be given to families of the performers, and there will also be standing room in the Multi-purpose room. Parent Club Our next meeting will be on Monday, February 18th at 5:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Our Jogathon is coming up next month! Please consider volunteering for this fundraiser. We need volunteers to mark students as they run laps and help total the number of laps/money earned for each student. Educational Foundation-Get Involved! The Geyserville Educational Foundation (GEF) is looking for volunteers to continue to enhance our students' school experience, and we need your help! Whether you can give an hour a year or 10 hours a month, we invite you to learn more about the work of GEF and how your skills and experience might be just what we're looking for to continue building our organization. Made up of parent volunteers, teachers and community members, GEF has the extraordinary job of raising money to support innovative programs...and the JOY of giving lots of money away every year!
